SPÒRS - THE “MUST WATCH” SPORTS PROGRAMME IN SCOTLAND

Fast becoming the “must watch” sports programme in Scotland, Spòrs this week includes an exclusive interview with international football legend Henrik Larsson previewing the UEFA Champions League Final. Sports fans can tune in to BBC TWO on Thursday night at 18.30 when they can see the footballer, whose phenomenal career with Celtic enshrined him as a hero to millions of Hoops fans, speaking to Spòrs in his native Swedish. The Spòrs team meet up with him in Spain ahead of next weeks UEFA champions league final between FC Barcelona and Arsenal FC at the Stade de France in Paris.

For the past few weeks Spòrs has offered television viewers a new style of news driven sports programming with a unique blend of international, national and local sports. For the first time ever, shinty is given regular coverage on television, and the series also shows exclusive highlights from World Cup qualifying matches played by the Scottish International Women’s Football Team, in addition to the breaking news stories of the week and in-depth interviews with sports stars.

Whilst footballing Scots converge on the historic Scottish Cup Final game this weekend when underdogs Gretna take on Hearts at Hampden, sports enthusiasts in the Western Isles are busy training and selecting a team to represent the area at the International Island Games in Rhodes in 2007. Spòrs joins the Western Isles team for their training and selection process. And proving that football is not just a boys game, a week after joining the Scotland Women’s International team at their training camp in Sweden, Spòrs this week follows the team to Ireland for exclusive highlights of their World Cup Qualifying Match against Dublin. Shinty fans can see extended highlights of the Marine Harvest Premier League shock when premier division new boys Strathglass won their weekend match against home team Lochcarron.

Spòrs also has stunning footage this week of one of Scotland's leading climbers as he completed the hardest ascent ever seen in the world. Dave MacLeod’s achievement on an unassuming piece of rock on the outskirts of Dumbarton has amazed climbers across the globe, and has led to him being ranked as one of Europe’s leading all-round climbers. According to the British climbing scale, routes are graded from easiest style of climb, called Moderate to Extreme. The hardest Extreme climbs, or E-grades, are also designated ascending numbers to illustrate their growing difficulty. The Dumbarton climb has been graded as E11, a full grade above the previous hardest route in the UK which was placed at E10. It also ranks harder than any other route in the world climbed in the traditional way, where the rope is carried up by the climber and clipped into removable protection placed in the rock as they move.

Spòrs can be seen on BBC TWO SCOTLAND on Thursday 11th May at 18.30.
